Around 2005, I got “Dream Car Fever.” The Mustang GT was my dream car. In 2013, I stumbled upon a really nice 2010 Mustang GT. I found it cost less than I expected, so I traded in my minivan.
My Dream Car was awesome! It was the nicest car I had ever owned and it was super fun to drive. I took really good care of it to try to maintain the new car look. I truly felt blessed to own it.
A few years later, I got a promotion at work and received a company car. I liked the idea of not putting extra miles on my dream car. At one point, I realized I had only driven my Mustang twice in a two month period. One of those times was just to take it to the car wash! My dream car was just sitting there collecting dust! It reminded me of the Bible verses in Matthew, chapter 6, that say I shouldn’t store my treasures on earth where moth and rust can destroy them, but I should store my treasures in heaven instead. That hit me right between the eyes. If I didn’t have the Mustang, My Beautiful Wife probably wouldn’t have to work. I decided that it was selfish for me to hold on to a car I hardly drove, and expect My Beautiful Wife to work to keep it. So, I sold it. I never regretted it. The quality of experiencing life with My Beautiful Wife outweighs any possession I may ever own. Of course, God knew I would later be unemployed for awhile and the expense of a second car could have put us in a bind. Father does know best.
Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to occasionally have the nice toys I want. Most of all, I thank you for giving me the wisdom and discernment to know when I don’t need them.
